"Z" zips up our year!

In this 2 weeks, we ate zucchini, talked about zip-lining, pretended to play zoo with Playmobil, learned about how the number zero is "the most powerful number in multiplication", and listened to music by the composer Zemlinsky.

For Sabbath school, we learned about Zaccheus:

We mailed a postcard to a family in Zambia:

We saw a real zamboni at Madison's skating lessons, and then Jacob played with his toy zamboni at Nana's house:

We maxed out our library cards putting "Z" books on hold to read:

I even got into the act, and checked some "Z" books out for me:

Madison has rediscovered her love for chapter books, starting with these "Z" titles:

We coloured "Z" colouring pages:

We went bowling with another family and the treasured ball was the zebra one:

Aunty Lynda sent up this kit for us to make in "Z" week:

We found this old video at the thrift store and watched it at Nana's house:

The kids made a toilet paper roll zebra craft:

We shopped here:

Madison and I read this novel together each night this week:

The kids discovered the world of Zhu Zhu pets (toys, computer game, and coloring book!):

I found a neat craft idea online for us to make zig zag books:

We practiced our zig zag cutting skills:

And made zinnia paper flowers out of cut-out Z shapes:

We enjoyed lots of these DVDs this week, perfect for rainy days of learning about animals:

Jacob did a zoo puzzle:

We went to this local restaurant to celebrate the end of the blog:

Oh, and can't forget our final paper plate craft:

I signed up for emails from this site:

And had my hair cut at this hair salon in town (best haircut I have had in a LONG time!):

Try as I might, I could not find ziti pasta in town! I would have liked to find a book about Zion National Park since the pictures I found online were spectacular!

Yay for Y!

In "Y" weeks, we ate yam fries, yolk, and lots of yogurt. We drove past Yorkshire Terrace, yawned, and even yelled. We found two awesome yodelling videos on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDDEk2AMJAI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9oxbyLlAYI&feature=related!

The kids made their own yachts:

Jacob, in learning to navigate the computer, kept finding himself back here at Yahoo:

We made yak crafts:

We went out for dinner (to a restaurant that was called Yoshi Sushi a few months ago!). We ate chicken yakisoba:

... yakitori:

... and tempura yam:

Jacob played in the yard at Grandma and Grandpa's house:

Madison and I made a fancy bingo blotter "Y":

We read "Y" books:

And coloured Y pictures (yawn, yucca, yellow jacket, and yarn!):

We had a yellow balloon party:

We wore matching yellow shirts:

We watched and listened to lots of music videos on:

Such as "Yellow Submarine":

and "Yesterday":

We ate a yorkie cake:

Visited yorkie puppies in the pet store:

And Madison played with her yorkie Webkinz:

The kiddos also tried out our yo-yo:

Jacob and Madison made yellow yarn Y crafts:

This week was really busy for our family so we didn't get to the Nanaimo Yacht Club, Yawning Acres, or down to Yellowpoint. We also could have visited our naturopath, Dr. Yim, eaten yellow squash, or researched the country of Yemen!
